Tips To Reduce Visual Distortion In Dyslexic People

Dyslexic people cannot read as easily as a normal person because of visual distortion. In simple terms, the words on the paper will be constantly moving in all directions. A dyslexic kid would see wobbly or faded texts. Sometimes, there might be wide gaps in between words. All this makes it hard for dyslexic people to read. The cause can be anything from a head injury, eyesight issues, or ADHD. Visual distortion might reduce with quality ADHD treatment in Chennai. Here are some tips to reduce visual distortion in dyslexic people.

1 – Consult a professional

A problem can be effectively treated only when the root cause is known. If you feel that this problem is because of dyslexia or ADHD, then you must consult a professional kids brain trainer for proper assistance. The expert will give valuable advice to minimize the problem and ensure it does not get worse. It is always the best thing to ask an expert before proceeding further alone.

2 – Picking the right fonts

Some fonts take a lot of effort for the brain to process than others. In that case, when using dyslexia-friendly fonts would make it a little bit easy for dyslexic readers. If a child feels difficulty in reading, fonts like Calibri, Verdana, and Arial are good options. These fonts do not have many curls and are simple to read. Hence, the child will have to put little to no effort when reading it.

3 – Changing Colors

Using different colors can also decrease the amount of visual stress on the dyslexic kid. Similar to changing fonts, try to change the font color or the background color. It will make the words stand out clearly. People with dyslexia would not have to struggle a lot in recognizing words that have a visible font color and appropriate background color. Effective right brain training is also necessary to increase the speed and accuracy of visual processing.

4 – Reading ruler and guides

One of the symptoms of dyslexia is the lack of attention. It becomes difficult to concentrate on a specific activity as dyslexic minds keep drifting off from one thing to another. Therefore, here is a simple remedy to ease visual distortion and increase concentration. The children can use a reading window which is a colored strip or a sheet. It masks out the surrounding lines. So, the children have to focus on the line which they are currently reading. When coupled with concentration exercises for students, the visual distortion will reduce.

5 – Decrease glare

Visual stress is very heavy when the lighting is continuously changing. The children must have an evenly-lit learning environment to make it easier for them visually. Ensure that the room does not have any shadows or glare from shiny objects. All these things will create unnecessary visual barriers. Therefore, keep the study table away from direct sunlight and avoid flickering lamps.

6 – Slant boards

Taking notes from the board can pose a challenge to dyslexic learners. Vertical tracking is not something that they can do easily. Therefore, having a raised platform at an angle of 22° can bring the desk closer to their face. This angle makes it comfortable for the children to read and write.
